Licensed Professional Counselor and Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor
Welcome!!
I believe that everyone has the capability for change and growth as we all have the strength and resilience to lead a healthy and joyous life as sometimes life can be messy. I offer a non-judgmental, safe space to gain the tools and understand your story and experiences which may be impacting your beliefs and current life.
My practice areas include (but not limited to) alcohol and other drug addictions, mood disorders, anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, developmental and relational trauma, and grief/loss. I have experience in working in a hospital setting, agency setting, residential treatment, and outpatient settings, which has given me the tools to provide therapy. I believe in creating a safe and supportive therapeutic relationship that encourages collaborative goal setting and individuals’ right to autonomy. I also believe that clients are their own best expert and support multiple pathways to recovery and utilize techniques that explore the mind/body connection. Rooted in the philosophy the mind can be used to heal the body and the body can be used to heal the mind.
Taking an integrative and trauma-informed approach, I see the client as a whole and utilize various modalities to specifically provide each individual needs for healing and wellbeing. From a client-centered approach, I employ techniques and approaches from evidence-based modalities that include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), rational-emotive-behavioral therapy (REBT), narrative therapy, mindfulness, acceptance commitment therapy (ACT), solution-focused therapy, and sensorimotor psychotherapy.
“Neuroscience research shows that the only way we can change the way we feel is by becoming aware of our inner experiences and learning to befriend what is going on inside ourselves.” – Bessel A. Vander Kolk, The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma.
Therapy is more than a career for me; it’s a passion. I consider myself a life-long learner and continue to strive to offer the best care possible. If you think your mental health is negatively impacting your ability to function, please feel free to contact me, and we can discuss options. My contact information is cathy@lifepointwi.com and telephone number 920-377-3812 and currently working out of the Plymouth office.
Some changes look negative on the surface, but you will soon realize that space is being created in your life for something new to emerge.” Eckhart Tolle.
